Spent a good two hours on designing an icon based navigation to generate a few more pageviews, and let people know what exactly this site is about, and let it stand out from most other weblogs.

Trying to also standardize an icon-summary system which will enable users to easily understand what a post is about and how to navigate it.

Let’s see how this will work out.
I’m pretty pleased with this now, and it runs on k2, meaning it’s rock solid in compatibility and has support for gazillions of plugins and easily customizable.
Wrote my first k2 style, called “PingPulse”, and will not release it to public. Will add some RSS widgets and more plugins to pimp up the blog. Dumping the category listing in favor of the top level navigation.
Things to do:

  1. add more plugins.
  2. shoutbox
  3. RSS Icons
  4. Some sort of related posts/etc.
  5. Spam protection.
  6. Better about page (will do this tomorrow)

A standard for posting on pingpulse(optional)

  1. Decide which of the seven sections your post falls under.
  2. ASSIGN THE CORRECT CATEGORY!!! the entire website depends solely on the categories.
  3. Add the corresponding icon with the correct link.
  4. Make it align to left, and the summary should fit in with the image.
  5. Use the more command.
  6. I suggest using windows live writer as it allows for precise editing so you can get the formatting of the summary just right. Normally you won’t know how much to type before splitting the post.

All changes made under the influence of Amon Amarth’s “Prediction of Warfare”. What an inspiring song for webdesign.

The fight was short and deadly intense
The Irish fought us well
But as we gained the upperhand
Their fighting spirit quelled

Ready to strike
With swords in our hands
They struggle with heart
The Irish fell to our wrath
