Looking at the stars

by anirudh on July 3, 2007

A friend of mine is home for study holidays from bangalore, and he has quite the time to find out lovely stuff :P

Pradeep, found out Midome.Com, a website that only requires you to hum a a tune and it will find it for you! sweet. i tried out a test search, the only song i could quickly mumble was Kelis - Lets get it on in public (when i liked one upon a time, i played it back to back for hours ;/)

Anyway, the search didn’t list anything Kelis but some R&B and chinese (Whaat!!) but i was pleasantly surprised with how fast the search was. It’s a must try if you’ve got better sing-a-along skills than me.

And as you are trying hard to get out that wonderful crooning skill, here’s a desktop app for you to keep gazing at  Stellarium , a free and Open Source software that is available for all three mainstream OS (Win, Mac & Linux), its a different experience for those who had enough of the earth and want the stars.

I haven’t tried it as yet, although its installation file sits on my desktop Here is a list of features…

Features of Stellarium:

  • Default catalogue of over 600,000 stars
  • Extra catalogues with more than 210 million stars
  • Images of nebulae (full Messier catalogue)
  • Realistic Milky Way
  • Very realistic atmosphere, sunrise and sunset
  • the planets and their satellites
